Three of the most common types of sample containers used on GPPD are shown below. Each type is available in sizes similar to that shown for the Room Temperature Sample Cans. As a direct result of the 2003-2004 upgrade, small sample quantities are not usually an issue. However, we do recommend using the largest quantity available (up to the largest volume shown below). It is recommended that all powdered, granular, peletted or solid samples fit inside these cans. In most cases the sample volume/size should not be larger than a two inch tall 1/2" diameter cylinder. Other sample sizes are acceptable under special conditions. Contact GPPD personnel for further details as needed.
Composed of a vanadium can with an aluminum top and utilizes an indium seal. Used for air sensitive samples or cold temperature sample environments. Usually loaded in a Helium Atmosphere, this can is secured with small brass screws.
These cans are specially designed for Use In Cold To Hot Transition Experiments. Composed of a vanadium can with an aluminum top and having a seal made with a Copper Coated Spring Steel O-Ring.The top is secured using alternating brass and steel screws to retain tension at both temperature extremes. For tube sizes above 14 inches and up to 24 inches in diameter, MDC wire seal flanges are recommended.
