Multi-stage compressors are used industrially for high pressure deliveries of gas flows or suction duties. The kinetic energy imparted to the gas by the impeller rotation is converted into pressure energy which progressively increases from stage to stage.
As a result of recently completed product development projects, a series of oil-free, motor driven compressors has been designed, built and are undergoing extensive testing. The developed compressors range in size from 5 to 175 HP, combine MiTi foil bearings, permanent magnet motor technologies and advanced Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). In developing these totally oil-free, variable speed centrifugal compressor products, MiTi combined its world-leading expertise in oil-free compliant foil gas bearings and high speed rotating machinery developments with state of the art motors and VFDs. A small-scale multi-stage centrifugal compressor demonstration unit, comprising of an inlet duct, the compressor, an outlet duct and an adjustable aperture, all mounted on a stainless steel base. Seven stages in the compressor. Independent testing confirms that TurboBlend™ 46 lasts twice as long as regular oil based lubricants while extending gear life with less foaming.
